This week as part of our Meet the team: five minutes with… series we’re chatting with one of our stylists, Shameka. We take five minutes out with Shameka for a quick chat!
Why did you want to work in the hair industry?
I enjoy the styling element of hair so much and being able to make someone feel different and give them a transformation after one appointment is amazing. It’s great seeing the before/after with clients. There is lots of creativity in this industry as there is so much you can do with hair! I’m also excited by fashion and bridal editorials and the unique hair and makeup trends that are showcased.
What do you enjoy most about working at aer?
We have such lovely clients as well as the friendly team make it a fun place to work. There are always lots of different people who come into the salon to meet too!
What’s your favourite aer blowdry style?
The Dubai style for its big bouncy hair and glamorous vibe.
What’s your hair trend of the summer?
Waves and braids! Waves in the hair are ideal for days at the beach or summer nights. Braids are great too and they’ve had a real revival over the past few years which is fun to see!
Celeb hair crush?
Beyoncé – her hair is always on trend whilst still being able to do something imaginative and different with her look. She’s a hair style icon!
What’s your number one hair care tip?
I like to wrap my hair in a silk scarf to stop shredding and losing its blowdry shape overnight. The silk also doesn’t rub the hair either. I would also recommend using coconut oil as a moisturiser for the hair – it’s also brilliant for the skin and cooking! Purchase here.
Hair up or down?
Hair down.
Go-to makeup look?
I love a dark lip, it’s so striking and can transform your entire face. Also a good coat of mascara!
Dream holiday destination?
South Africa- it would be great to go on Safari there!
Best thing about London in the summer?
Going out to eat! London has some fab restaurant pop ups and we have so much choice it can be difficult to choose! Time Out always has great ideas for pop up restaurants, check out some suggestions here.
Thank you to Shameka for taking the time for this interview and we look forward to introducing another team member to the blog next month!
