International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day celebrates social, political, economic and cultural achievement of women.  To celebrate we wanted to share with you some of the women that inspire us at aer blow dry bar.

Emma Watson

Best known for her role as Hermione in Harry Potter, Emma Watson has certainly come of age with her extensive work and awareness for women’s rights, championing the brilliant He for She campaign and her speech at the UN.  In a recent interview with Vanity Fair she says,  “I couldn’t care less if I won an Oscar or not if the movie didn’t say something that I felt was important for people to hear.” Read more here.

At our blow dry bar in London our fave Emma Watson hair moment is her halo braid at the recent Beauty & the Beast Premiere in London;

Frida Kahlo

Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo from the early twentieth century is still admired as a feminist icon.  She was viewed by many as a female icon of creativity and her signature headdresses are still recognised today and have inspired many.

Our fave hair moment in her classic floral headdress;

Beyonce

We couldn’t mention International Women’s Day without mentioning the Queen B, Beyonce.  Known for her powerful stage presence often used to promote women and their rights, Beyonce consistently lifts women up though her music and memorable performances.

Our fave hair moment at our London blow dry bar is Queen B sporting her natural hair at Glastonbury festival 2011;

Winnie Harlow

Canadian model Winnie Harlow is known for having a form of the skin condition vitiligo, and has landed many notable fashion campaigns – her unique look challenges perceptions of beauty in an industry so obsessed with image.   Winnie has shared that she is proud of her skin and has said there is no reason to fit into preordained moulds, “there is beauty in everything.”

Our fave hair moment;

The Hadid sisters

The Hadid sisters have taken the fashion world by storm are here to stay!  With both carving out successful modelling careers in their own rights, they are certainly making a name for themselves within the fashion world and beyond.  Bella Hadid is also a spokesperson for Global Lyme Alliance after contracting Lyme disease as a teenager, whilst Gigi Hadid is an ambassador for Reebok and headed the #PerfectNever campaign alongside feminists Lena Dunham and Ruby Rose to name a few. Both have also developed their own fashion lines, with Gigi’s second collection Tommy X GiGi Spring ’17 recently showcased in LA.

Our favourite hair moments are when they are seen with contrasting hair styles- Bella’s hair is often styled with a slicked back middle parting whereas Gigi sports braids or loose hair waves;
