Joanna, Head of Styling

Why did you want to be a hairdresser?

I always wanted to be a hairdresser since the age of 12.  My friend’s mum was a hairdresser and had a salon at her house, every time I went round there I was always interested in watching them and loved experimenting on my own hair.  As soon as I was 16 I left school and went straight into the industry.

What do you like about working at aer?

I love working at aer.  Firstly the location and clientele are fantastic.  The staff are all great and everyone has different outlooks/perspectives on things which works so well.  I’ve always enjoyed styling hair so it is perfect for me.

Favourite blowdry?

I’m loving our summer up-dos incorporating fresh flowers, particularly The Berkshire style.

Hair care product you can’t live without?

Oribe Creme for Style.  This gorgeous product really holds your blowdry, apply to wet hair and let the cream do the rest!

Hair up or down?

Down.  It’s either beach waves for an effortless just got out of bed look or straight and sleek for going out.

How long should a blow dry last?

A good blow dry should last at least four days but that does really depend upon the hair type, thicker/coarser hair will also last longer than those with thinner hair.

Celeb hair crush?

Alexa Chung – she rocks short hair!

Dream client?

Victoria Beckham.

Heels or flats?

Heels on a night out 100%.  I wouldn’t even go to the local bar in flats!

How long do you take to get ready for a night out?

I’m actually quite quick getting ready, as it’s normally a rush after a busy Saturday.  I would say half an hour and I’m out the door! Obviously my hair will be done at Aer in the day and my make up is usually finished en route!

London weekend hangout spot?

Southbank is great for an evening stroll or Borough market – I’d recommend trying one of the paella dishes, delicious!

Thank you to Joanna for taking the time for this interview, stay tuned for our next five minutes with series soon!
